Hazards are zoned 0/1/2 (gas) and 20/21/22 (dust). Types include flameproof Ex d, increased-safety Ex e, pressurized Ex p and dust-ignition-proof ExtD.

Gas groups IIA/IIB/IIC set gap/MIC ratios (IIC strictest); T1–T6 cap surface temperature below the ignition point—e.g. Ex d IIC T4.
