HV Motor Cooling Explained: IC Codes, IC6A/IC81W Selection

2024-01-27 · XIMA Technical Center

Read cooling from IC codes and compare air-air vs air-water cooling for selection.

Losses turn into heat; without removal, insulation life suffers. The IC code describes cooling as medium–circulation–secondary, e.g. IC611 (air-air) and IC81W (air-water).

Air-air uses an internal fan and external radiator—compact and simple, good for poor water quality or tight spaces. Air-water moves heat into cooling water via a heat exchanger, suiting high power, high ambient or enclosed plants.

Select by environment, water availability, noise limits and cost. XIMA HV motors offer IC01/IC611/IC81W with configuration tuned to the load curve.
