Upgrade of Mill & Rolling Main Drive Motors for a Steel Group in Southwest China

A large steel group in Southwest China · 2024

Background: A large Southwest-China steel group modernized its plants; the slag mill and rolling auxiliaries still ran on imported motors with long lead times, high spare-part cost and slow on-site service.

Challenge: Ball mills are heavy, low-speed, high-inertia loads demanding high starting torque, locked-rotor capability and long continuous-run reliability; rolling cranes need frequent start/stop and overload capacity.

Solution: XIMA supplied TDMK large synchronous motors for the mill main drive and ZZJ-800 metallurgy crane DC motors for the rolling-line hoists, with insulation and bearing systems reinforced for the duty.

Execution: After load and overspeed tests at XIMA’s large-motor test station, the motors were delivered, aligned, lubricated and jointly commissioned with the existing control system for a smooth handover.

Outcome: Replacing imports cut total running cost and failure rate; maintenance shifted from monthly to planned quarterly intervals, securing continuous, efficient mill and rolling production.

Overview

XIMA delivered TDMK large synchronous motors and ZZJ-800 metallurgy crane DC motors for a Southwest-China steel group’s slag mill and rolling lines, replacing imports with improved drive efficiency, reliability and longer maintenance intervals.
